Pursued a BS in Biomedical Engineering while minoring in Physics and Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology. After finishing college, became an EMT-Basic for New York State and an Academic Associate performing clinical research in the Department of Emergency Medicine within the North Shore-LIJ Health System. Currently finishing his undergraduate medical education at Stony Brook University School of Medicine and looks forward to beginning his residency training in Emergency Medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Academic Interests: Critical care and resuscitation medicine with a specific focus on biomarkers and therapeutic management of sepsis and septic shock.
Favorite activities in New Haven: Sampling the local delicacies.
Why Yale EM: Incredible academic reputation with amazing residents and faculty. The YES program offers a special and unique opportunity to master clinical skills while providing the resources and mentorship necessary to develop both academically and professionally. Strong presence in the northeast with geographic location close to family and friends.

Why Yale EM: The residents I met on my interview genuinely seemed happy with their decision to train at Yale. They spoke very highly of their co-residents & EM faculty. I also thought Yale would foster an environment that encouraged individuality and support for residents to pursue whatever their interests may be. Lastly, Dr. Della-Giustina seemed like a great program director to work with during residency.

Favorite activities in New Haven: I have only spent a month over the summer in New Haven, but I could have spent another month hitting up all the local restaurants, bars, and food trucks! Never a far drive for a beach day either!
Why Yale EM: When I did a rotation at Yale, I immediately felt like I had found my place. Excellent faculty that were always willing to teach, the resources of a large academic institution with a diverse patient population, an outstanding education curriculum. But more than anything, I felt at home with Yale’s awesome residents and ER staff.
Random factoid: I have an appreciation for bizarre “sports”, having competed professionally as a dodgeballer, cheerleader, and eater

Hobbies/Interests: I’m an avid forager of wild mushrooms, and formerly supplied a James Beard award winning restaurant in Baltimore with all their wild foods. When not in the woods, I’m an eager fisherman who has trouble picking just one style and will happily wet a fly in a river, or paddle out in open water kayak fishing.
Past Life: I worked for an environmental non-profit in China making a documentary about desertification, volunteered as an Americorps VISTA in Humboldt County, CA, and worked as an education journalist in Baltimore, MD.

Why Yale EM: I couldn’t decide between an academic, community and county style program. Luckily, I didn’t have to as Yale offers all of the above. It also didn’t hurt that the residents I met while interviewing were whip-smart, down-to-earth, and just the right amount of nerdy.

Why Yale EM: Why not? World class faculty who are also extremely down to earth. These are the people I want to mentor me to achieve great things in the future.
Random factoid: Although I grew up scared of heights, I’ve engaged in various activities to the contrary including bungee jumping off the highest bungee in the world. Stay tuned for my next adventure.

Hobbies/Interests: As far as interests, I used to be more of an adrenaline junkie but I’ve calmed down a bit. Definitely into hiking, biking, and also have been a regular pick-up basketball player since undergrad. Recently, I’ve become something of a house-husband and have gotten really into cooking, interior design, and reading Martha Stewart Living…seriously. Other than that, I’m really into sustainability and the environment. I’m a huge fan of Tesla motors, SpaceX and anything Elon Musk. I am also guilty of reading The New Yorker every week and other great writing, both fiction and nonfiction. There are also rumors that I engage in comedy writing.
Past Life: Nerd.
Academic Interests: Global health, specifically refugee populations in the Middle East. Data analysis. Medical education. Gender and society. Ultrasound. 
Favorite activities in New Haven: Biking along the Farmington canal, hiking up East Rock, hitting up the famous New Haven pizza and culinary scene, playing pickup basketball at the Payne-Whitney gym, mentoring undergraduates at Yale, walking into one of the many beautiful buildings on campus and finding a quiet place to read, attending random campus talks about fields other than medicine, having serendipitous encounters and conversations with the brilliant people here at Yale. 
Why Yale EM: Yale’s always been a second home for me but I didn’t know how great a place it would be to train in EM until my away rotation here as an MS4. I was simply blown away by the people, facilities and opportunities available in the EM department. I realized in short order that Yale would be the best for me to get a solid training while being around incredibly talented yet friendly people, in a department and hospital system that was well-run and ideal for learning.
Random factoid: You might not guess it by looking at me but I’ve been on ESPN. When I was in 8th grade, I enjoyed my 15 seconds of fame as a participant in the National Spelling Bee where I ultimately met my end to the word nephalism.

Hobbies/Interests: I enjoy going to art galleries, biking, hiking, and playing guitar and ukulele. I’m a bit of a foodie and love going to restaurants as well as cultivating my own veggies with urban farming/gardening. I also have a toddler who has recently re-introduced me to the joys of children’s museums and swing sets.
Past Life: I took a non-traditional path to medicine and spent several years working in global/public health focusing mostly on various women’s reproductive health issues. Along the way I also held various odd jobs including cocktail waitress, boutique retailer, and transporting organs for transplants across the country.

Favorite activities in New Haven: I’m excited to explore New Haven’s food scene and area hiking.
Why Yale EM: Yale is an academic powerhouse! I was drawn by the abundance of research opportunities including interdisciplinary partnerships throughout the university. There were inspiring faculty and residents who shared both my research as well as community service interests and I was excited to get to work with them.
And also, the food trucks might have factored in!
