Why Yale EM: Initially, I was attracted to Yale’s phenomenal work on substance addiction, HIV/AIDS and gender disparity in healthcare. Subsequent to my time as a sub-Intern, the diversity and strength in terms of faculty expertise and clinical interests, fellowship options, the cohort of ER house-staff and the patient population and disease pathologies that Yale offers became my compelling force towards this program. The Yale EM program offered a nurturing yet an autonomous environment for EM residents to grow and learn. Add to this an amazingly friendly group of co-residents, nurses and staff. The program’s aim and successful accomplishment of training academically-oriented leaders in emergency medicine won me over. During my interview day, on-going projects like DrivSim immediately convinced me that this is the place where really imagination is the limit. Any kind of research or leadership idea can take shape here. There is also ample opportunity to serve the community and work with the underserved population at Bridgeport while learning at a major tertiary academic center. Lastly, there is plenty that that Yale University itself has to offer in terms of academic, cultural and recreational resources.
Random factoid: I’m allergic to fruits, so an apple a day really does keep me away.
